Dispendix is seeking a Genomics Applications Scientist with strong expertise in genomics and lab automation to support both internal applications and pre-sales activities. In this role, you will work closely with the sales team, acting as the scientific expert to help design and present tailored automation solutions using Dispendix’s technology. You will also manage internal applications work, oversee product demonstrations, and maintain Dispendix's lab operations to ensure high-quality support for customer engagements. This role blends scientific leadership, technical expertise, and sales support to drive successful customer outcomes.

The position is based at our lab in Ashland, MA (Boston Area) with some potential of remote work after completing onboarding.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with sales, marketing and product management teams to provide scientific insights and support for customer-facing initiatives, including product demonstrations, pre-sales testing and technical presentations.
  • Lead the development and optimization of automated workflows for genomics applications such as NGS library prep, PCR, and sample preparation, as well as drug discovery, synthetic biology, and assay development processes.
  • Support our customers by testing their automated protocols as a part of the implementation process.
  • Develop a repository of automated NGS Library Prep protocols for use by our customer base.
  • Support day-to-day lab operations, including maintaining instruments, managing inventory, and preparing for customer-facing activities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in molecular biology, biotechnology, or a related field, with experience in lab automation preferred.
  • Multiple years of experience working in a genomics or molecular biology lab, with hands-on experience in techniques such as NGS, PCR, or DNA/RNA extraction.
  • Basic knowledge of laboratory automation technologies (e.g., liquid handlers, dispensers) and a willingness to learn and develop automation workflows.
  • Strong organizational skills, with experience managing lab equipment and maintaining inventory.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain scientific concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience with hands-on lab work, product demonstrations, or training others in laboratory techniques is a plus.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with sales teams and internal R&D teams to deliver effective solutions to customers.
  • Exposure to laboratory automation tools and software, with a desire to grow your skills in this area.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and adapt to a fast-paced, customer-driven environment.
  • Willingness to travel both domestically and internationally up to 40%.
